On February 11th, 2022 join Art History Professor Cynthia Brannvall and Panelists; Idris Hassan, Ayana Ivery, Tiarra Asia Knox, and Karen Seneferu, on topics surrounding Black identity, building community, creating new narratives, and Black joy.
This workshop introduces audience members to the importance of artistic expression as a healing tool in the African Diaspora. It includes a brief survey about the history of African-American and African Diasporic Art, as well as a dialogue touching on the healing aspects of artistic enrichment in cultural communities. The workshop will also explore the subject of using art as a tool for social transformation and includes an art activity. (Materials needed will be shared prior to the workshop)

Description: During the time of the pandemic, we are exploring how artists coped when galleries and museums were closed. How and where did artists show their work? How did they use this time to remain creative? Were they creative? How did the pandemic affect their mental well-being? These are just a few of the questions that will be discussed.
